Phobias

A phobia is an anxiety disorder characterized by an intense, irrational, and persistent fear of a specific object, situation, or activity. This fear triggers an extreme anxiety response, which may include physical symptoms such as sweating, heart palpitations, and trembling. Phobias can vary widely in nature and severity, and they often limit a person’s life, as they avoid what they fear, leading to difficulties in facing certain situations.

There are numerous specific phobias, such as agoraphobia, claustrophobia, social phobia, acrophobia, among others. However, most of these phobias share common characteristics that interfere with normal daily functioning due to the intense fear they provoke. They not only paralyze, but also trigger intense arousal: the heart races, sweating increases, and gradually anxiety takes hold of the affected person.
